| Qari M. A. Jaleel Profile: Muhammed Abdul Jaleel was born 15th Dec, 1959 in the Porompat locality
of the capital city Imphal, Manipur. Manipur is situated in the extreme
north eastern province of India. Qari Jaleel is the third eldest son of
the family. His late father was Abdul Mannan, affectionately known as
Aba and his beloved mother is Basheerun Nissa alias Thembal Sana. Qari
Jaleel’s struggles in his early period of studies are unique.
Education:
The first school he attended was the local government school and he learnt
the Quran Majeed at a young age from his late uncle Rajab Ali. Qari Abdul
Jaleel was further taught Islamic studies for one and a half years by
Moulana Hatim Ali (Pesh Imam Jame Masjid Imphal).
Journey
for Knowledge: In Sept, 1971, at the age of twelve, Qari Abdul
Jaleel was sent by his loving father to the famous old city Rampur in
Uttar Pradesh (UP), India for further intense studies in order to become
an Islamic scholar.
After one year of studying at Rampur, Qari Jaleel took a brave step to
leave this place in search of an environment of higher studies. He continued
his studies at Darul Uloom Matli Wala in the city of Bharuch, situated
in the state of Gujarat in western India. The first six years, even though
financially very challenging and facing a lot of hardships, he completed
Riwayat ul Hafs (first phase) in the subject of Tajweed & Qira’ah.
The hard work he put into his studies and his excellent progress did not
go unnoticed. The administrator of the institution selected him for recitation
of the Holy Qur’an for all its functions and events.
In a short
space of time Qari Jaleel acquired a special place in the hearts of his
teachers because of his excellent attitude and hard work in the recitation
of the Holy Qur’an despite the fact that Urdu and Arabic were not
his mother tongue.
The reputation
of this boy had now spread beyond the four walls of the Darul Uloom Matli
Wala and across the Gujarat State. At the time, he was fifteen and far
from home yet Almighty Allah was with him at each moment in time because
he was dedicated and focused.
“Jiska
koi nahi hota uska khuda hota hai”
(Whomsoever has nobody has Allah)
After six years of study in Gujarat he went to one of the worlds most
renowned Muslim University namely Darul Uloom Deoband in the state of
U.P India. Here he completed his studies. Whilst studying in Gujrat Qari
Jaleel had become famous for his recitation of the holy Quran, Naat and
Nazams. However when he arrived at Darul Uloom Deoband he was relatively
unknown amongst an ocean of talent and thus had to strive even more than
before in order to compete. Again his dedication and commitment was rewarded
when he was selected to participate in the All India Qira’at ul
Qur’an competition which took place in Delhi in March 1979 and achieved
third position. In September 1979 he was selected by AIMTQ (All India
Majlis Tabligh ul Quran) to participate in the World Qira’at Ul
Qur’an competition which took place in Libya. In this competition
India took fifth position. The year after in 1980, Qari Jaleel held the
first position in the All India Qira’at ul Qur’an competition
held in Delhi. After being recognized for his achievements he was invited
as a judge at Qira’at ul Qur’an competitions held throughout
India.
He completed Al Qira’aatus Sabah Al Mutawatirah (highest degree
in Qur’anic subject) from Shahii Muradabad U.P., India.
Professional Career: In August 1983 Qari Jaleel was appointed
a lecturer of Tajweed and Qira’ah by the management of the university
Darul Uloom Deoband. He then went to the United Kingdom in 1986 where
he was requested to work with many organizations. Qari Jaleel agreed to
work with the Islamic Educational Society in Blackburn, UK and continued
to work with them till 1992. He decided to leave in order to pay full
attention to Majlis Saut Ul Qur’an which he established in 1989.
Majlis
Saut Ul Qur’an: The main objectives of his organisation
was to teach children and adults from all walks of life to improve their
Qur’an recitation. To this day he has produced hundreds of students
in UK and around the world. He is still continuing his work at Majlis
Saut ul Qur’an UK with the same zeal that he possessed from the
outset.
